Many Schools, Universities, Businesses, Libraries and
Communities have created local ALL ONE HEART Diversity Clubs or groups.
Whether inspired by personal experience or as a mandate from management, these groups are formed with the purpose of
education and creating a place to begin a dialog of tolerance. They meet in boardrooms, community rooms and living rooms, in libraries and auditoriums. They meet to exchange ideas, explore solutions, and to learn
from each other.
Often there is an experience of cultural food and dress with the emphasis on fun. There are outings such as visits to museums
and amusement parks and picnics - doing the kinds of things every one enjoys, offering the opportunity to get to know one another better in a common, friendly environment.
If you would like to start an ALL ONE HEART Diversity Club in your area we recommend the following:
© Begin with a plan of what your group wants to accomplish - both short and long term.
© Locate a place to gather weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
© Invite everyone you know: There must be no discrimination
of who is invited, with the exclusion of persons who may cause potential harm to the safety and well being of other attendees. Encourage "Everyone with a heart for promotion of a more tolerant humanity is Welcome."
© Get the word out using every method available to you:
local community television Public Service Announcement pages, Public Address systems on campus/in business, company/campus newsletter, bulletin boards, mini-posters and/or flyers at churches, community centers,
libraries, County Fairs, parades, press-releases, local chapters of cultural/religious/disabilities groups, etc.
© Print copies of "What Can I Do…Today?" and
"The Pledge" (Important Note: everything from our website is yours to use - it is copyrighted material and must bear the ALL ONE HEART
name credit on each piece) to distribute to attendees.
© Elect officers such as President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer to keep things official. If you choose to collect dues, be sure your Treasurer opens an account with 3 or more authorized signors - with 2 signatures required for withdrawals. Assure that
complete records are kept for managing payouts to cover costs of written/printed materials, postage, rooms fees, refreshments, *sponsorship of needy/special needs individual(s) to events.
© Assure that you have met legal requirements regarding
club organization, permits, and insurance coverage of persons attending meetings/outings. Check with your in-house and local authorities to determine compliance.
© Make it a policy that the purpose of your gatherings is
to discuss positive solutions to challenges and to learn from one another to become more tolerant of diversity, with a goal of celebrating that diversity. (It is contrary to these goals to focus on hate, what won't
work, or promotion of stereotypical and hate-based comments and practices.)
© Involve children in the positive discussions and
experiences as appropriate.
© Plan outings such as visits to museums and amusement
parks, and picnics. Focus on making it fun and a learning experience. You should be able to take advantage of group rates and/or advanced purchase...just ask them for their policies on that. Don't forget to assure compliance with insurance or permits as needed. For example:
If you hire a bus or a boat, who carries what liability and when.
© Go to your local school board, YMCA, YWCA, etc. and get
their support to encourage more kids and their families to join in. We strongly recommend that having both parents and children involved will make a greater impact and take you a long way to achieving tolerance of
diversity.
© Wear your ALL ONE HEART t-shirts
(volume discounts are available) to these events as it will provide a common bond between attendees and afford you an opportunity to proudly display your passion about diversity tolerance.
© *Sponsor a needy or special needs individual to each and
every outing/event. Use your club dues to pay for transportation, admittance fees, food, t-shirt, etc. to enable the individual an opportunity to be a part of this important experience.
© Keep the ALL ONE HEART
organization apprised of what you're up to. We may be able to offer support, emotionally, logistically or financially!
© Submit photos and articles of your members and about your
events, for placement in our newsletter and on our website.
Congratulations on your decision to begin to make a difference where you can. Good luck and
remember, we are here to help!
